Dress & Behaviour Code
 
All dancers MUST wear designated clothing to all dance classes.  For a dancer to receive corrections, the teacher must be able to clearly view the  physique for proper and correct body alignment. No baggy t-shirts, sweat pants or extra clothing of any kind are allowed.  Hair for girls must be in a bun/ French braid or with a hair band if short.  (ALL CLASSES).  Ballet- girls: pink CONVERTIBLE-FOOT tights, black body suit, soft pink ballet slippers with elastics, pointe shoes for advanced classes.  Creative dance- leotard, any colour, bare legs  or footless tights, bare feet.  Highland- body suit (any colour),  close-fitting  bike shorts with knee socks, black Highland slippers, practice skirt for girls (2nd year & over).  Modern- body suit / footless tights.  Boys- consult teacher. Adults- comfortable clothing
 
 

At MacKenzie School of Dance, we strive to ensure that every dancer will dance, create and perform in an environment that is respectful, inspiring and nurturing.

Dancers show respect for themselves, their classmates, teachers & the art form by:

  • being prompt for class and being prepared to dance at least 5 minutes before class time;
  • being dressed properly for class following the MSD Dress Code and without jewelry;
  • listening when the teacher speaks;
  • being prepared for their turn and waiting quietly for others to have a turn;
  • always asking before leaving the room for any reason and entering quietly;
  • giving their best effort to every class

 

    Dancers show respect for the dance school by:
  •   leaving gum and food in the change room
  •   never hanging or leaning on the barres;
  •   never running or behaving boisterously in the change room, waiting
  •   area or studio;
  •   putting garbage in its proper place and leaving all areas tidy;
  •   always keeping all belongings zipped in their dance bag or neatly  stowed under the bench
  • Parents show respect for the dance class, teachers and dance school by:
  • knocking before entering the classroom if class is in progress;
  • standing away from the window if it becomes obvious that students are being distracted;
  • making sure child has visited the bathroom before entering class;
  • having students at class on time and picking them up promptly after class;
  • letting us know in advance of student absence by phone or email;
  • clearly labeling all of their child’s items with their name;
  • ensuring their children do not run or behave boisterously in the studio and waiting area.

       Parents show respect for themselves, their children & the  school by:

  • Speaking & behaving respectfully towards all dancers & other parents
  • Refraining from comments that may be construed as gossip, criticism at all times.
  • Calling the teacher directly with any problems or concerns.
